What is Genetically Modified (GMO) Food?
http://bestmeal.info/food/GMOs.shtml
http://bestmeal.info/monsanto/company-history.shtml
Currently about 75% of all processed food in the USA has GMO ingredients. This is information you must understand if you eat anything made from soy, corn, wheat, cotton (oil), canola (oil), sugar from sugar beets, zucchini, yellow squash, Hawaiian papaya, alfalfa and more is coming.
The USA is currently the only country that does NOT require labels for GMO foods. (There is massive opposition to GMO's in Europe).
GMO food is almost anything that comes in a box, can, or bag at the grocer (althoughGMOs are currently banned in the EU & Canada) - GMOs cause cancer, sterility, farmer suicides, and worse. The "organic" label means less than 5% contaminated; only "100% Organic" is safe and are typically labeled as GMO-free.
The safest milk is labeled "NO rBGH - NO rBST" - but those cows probably eat GMO alfalfa & pig feed (meat), and are pumped with antibiotics to combat factory farm diseases; the rBGH cows get udder infections (mastitis) and pus also gets in the milk; yes, all that stuff is STILL in the milk in the grocer (3%-19% pus).
100s of American farmers have been sued, and over 100.000 foreign farmers (India) have commited suicide by drinking Monsanto's Round-Up after their GMO "Round-Up Ready" crops fail. Once people understand HOW GMO food is created, it's easy to understand why we shouldn't be eating it nor releasing it into the environment.
Foods containing GMOs don't have to be labeled in the USA. Monsanto has fought hard to prevent labeling laws. This is alarming, since approximately 70% of processed foods in the US now contain GMO ingredients. The European Union, Japan, China, Korea, Australia, New Zealand and many other nations now require mandatory GMO labeling.

GENETICALLY MODIFIED ORGANISMS
What are GMOs?
GMOs (or “genetically modified organisms”) are organisms that have been created through the gene-splicing techniques of biotechnology (also called genetic engineering, or GE). This relatively new science allows DNA from one species to be injected into another species in a laboratory, creating combinations of plant, animal, bacteria, and viral genes that do not occur in nature or through traditional crossbreeding methods.
Are GMOs safe?
In 30 other countries around the world, including Australia, Japan, and all of the countries in the European Union, there are significant restrictions or outright bans on the production of GMOs, because they are not considered proven safe. In the U.S. on the other hand, the FDA approved commercial production of GMOs based on studies conducted by the companies who created them and profit from their sale. Many health-conscious shoppers find the lack of rigorous, independent, scientific examination on the impact of consuming GM foods to be cause for concern.
Please click here for an excellent research summary: “GM Crops–Just the Science.” This plain-English overview includes nearly 150 citations with a focus on the peer-reviewed science on GMOs.
Do Americans want non-GMO foods and supplements?
Polls consistently show that a significant majority of North Americans would like to be able to tell if the food they’re purchasing contains GMOs (a 2008 CBS News Poll found that 87% of consumers wanted GMOs labeled). And, according to a recent CBS/New York Times poll, 53% of consumers said they would not buy food that has been genetically modified. The Non-GMO Project’s seal for verified products will, for the first time, give the public an opportunity to make an informed choice when it comes to GMOs.
How common are GMOs?
According to the USDA, in 2009, 93% of soy, 93% of cotton, and 86% of corn grown in the U.S. were GMO. It is estimated that over 90% of canola grown is GMO, and there are also commercially produced GM varieties of sugar beets, squash and Hawaiian Papaya. As a result, it is estimated that GMOs are now present in more than 80% of packaged products in the average U.S. or Canadian grocery store.
Where does the Non-GMO Project come in?
The Non-GMO Project is an initiative of the North American organic and natural product industry to create a standardized definition of non-GMO and a 3rd party verification program to assess product compliance with this Standard. The Project’s Product Verification Program is entirely voluntary, and participants are companies who see the value of offering their customers a verified non-GMO choice. Many of the individuals and businesses leading the way with the Project are the same ones responsible for creating the original organic standards.

Roundup is Even Worse than You Thought / or GMO is Worse
than You Thought
Polyethoxylated tallow amine (POEA) is an adjuvant surfactant in Roundup. It's derived from animal fat, and according to the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and US Department of Agriculture (USDA), it's an inert ingredient that is safe for use. However, inert does not automatically mean harmless, and this is a critical distinction to make.
"What they really aren't telling you is that it's inert in that it doesn't kill bugs, but that doesn't mean that it's not toxicologically harmful. It's inert as a bug killer, but might not be inert as a human killer," Dr. Dunning says.
POEA has actually been shown to be cytotoxic (toxic to cells) at doses far lower than glyphosate itself. It also amplifies the toxic effects of glyphosate. Dr. Dunning also notes POEA causes hemolysis—a condition where the membrane of your red blood cells burst. This removes the hemoglobin, which decreases oxygen transport in your body. If your blood isn't transporting oxygen to your brain for example, it may contribute to a wide variety of neurological problems.
"Glyphosate has several different formulations, but most of it has this additive—POEA—which is a surfactant. In other words, glyphosate tends to be hydrophilic. It doesn't want to go through the leaf surface, so they have surfactants that get dried into the leaf," Dr. Dunning explains. "Because it dries into the leaf, it doesn't wash off. It gets into the system of the plant...
POEA [also] has extremely strong detrimental effects itself. It destroys the cytochrome P450 enzyme in the liver, which is designed to detoxify toxins. When that enzyme system is damaged, these toxins are way more effective. It also destroys the ability of glutathione to be used.
Moreover, there's an interesting phenylalanine issue. Phenylalanine is needed for tyrosine, which also gets your epinephrine and norepinephrine made. If you decrease your phenylalanine [production], you don't get that cascade of chemicals. It also destroys tryptophan. Tryptophan is needed for serotonin and melatonin, so you can sleep at night. We're seeing a lot of sleep disorders in the population. Well, if you're destroying your tryptophan and your serotonin and melatonin cascade, you're going to see sleep disorders.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has studies that show that these chemicals mimic adrenaline, which is also a big part of that because norepinephrine makes your adrenaline. We're seeing these illnesses occur in humans that are very similar to endocrine-disrupting systems. We're seeing the introduction of chemicals in food that do exactly that, and no one wants to really address this issue."

Consumers Across the Nation
are Boycotting Kellogg’s Foods:
Here’s Why Kellogg’s corn flakes and other food-like products that the company makes are full of Bt Corn. The EPA has registered Bt corn as a pesticide since the crop makes its own insecticide. (Reg. #524-581 and 68467-7) Bt corn has been shown to cause serious health problems.
“. . .a toxin called Bacillus thuringiensis or Bt, designed to attack a corn pest called the corn rootworm. Rats fed Mon 863 developed several reactions, including those typically found with allergies (increased basophils), in response to infections, toxins and various diseases including cancer (increased lymphocytes and white blood cells), and in the presence of anemia (decreased reticulocyte count) and blood pressure problems (decreased kidney weights).”
The makers of Bt corn, primarily Monsanto and Syngenta, are responsible for selling this food-stuff to companies like Kellogg’s, but they have the choice to source their corn from organic farmers, and simply don’t.Syngenta’s website says that Bt corn can ‘make a farmer’s life easier,’ but this has also been proven to be grossly false. Farmers in the Philippines who sowed Bt seeds went bankrupt.
“An estimated 270,000 small-hold farmers in the Philippines are being forced to grow GM corn and ending up in debt as a result.
These are the findings of a recent study by CI member IBON and MASIPAG, a farmer-led network of people’s organisations, non-government organisations and scientists.”
Indian farmers are committing suicide, too, specifically due to Bt seed.
“Globalization and monopoly have forced farmers to buy GM seeds and since GM crops have become pests’ resistance, the farmers have no choice but to purchase Monsanto’s pesticide. Sometimes GM crops fail over and over again; GM crops also do not grow back again next year and every year farmers have to buy new seeds. The Daily Mail has called the continuous suicide of Indian farmers a “genocide” in human history. What’s really disturbing is that often time farmers commit suicide by drinking the insecticide shipped to them by Monsanto.”
So, to summarize, Kellogg’s company is using GMO Bt corn and other GMO crops in their food that they then sell the world to the tune of at least $12 billion annually, and in the process they are poisoning people and bankrupting farmers. What’s more, Kellogg’s foods are full of GMO sugarbeets – another reason consumers are joining the boycott. Is it really worth that morning bowl of cereal?

McDonalds New Potato!
McDonald's poised to embrace new GMO potato farming in 2014 and beyond.
January 07, 2014 by: Lance Johnson
GMO's work by tearing the stomach of the pests ... studies now confirm that the pesticide tears the lining of the people that eat the GMO food as the pesticide is a large part of the food..
(NaturalNews) A new variety of genetically modified potato could show up in Idaho as early as 2015.
Nearly 13 years ago, customers revolted against Monsanto's transgenic NewLeaf potato, which contained synthetic bacteria to kill insect pests. Now, a new company, J.R. Simplot Co., aims to bring back genetically modified potatoes to the state and elsewhere.
The Idaho Potato Commission, representing Idaho's $3 billion potato industry, is in support of the new GMO potato variety but is wary of customer opposition. "Unless your customers are prepared to embrace this product, it's not going to be successful," said Frank Muir, president of the Commission.
McDonald's on the other hand has a financial interest in the new GMO potato business.
McDonald's vast influence could spur widespread new GMO potato farming
With a global daily production of 9 million pounds of fries a day, McDonald's is looking for better ways to lower the cost of processing potatoes for fry production. This business move may encourage and embrace new GMO potato agriculture, spearheaded by their very own potato distributor, none other than Simplot.
Simplot has come up with a new "Innate" brand of potatoes that don't use synthetic bacteria. Instead, their variety effectively silences potato DNA to stop the potatoes' natural bruising process. This would reduce black spots in potatoes, thus increasing crop yields. McDonald's wouldn't have to throw away bad potatoes. They could increase revenues with the new enzyme-stripped "Innate" potato by reducing waste.
Haven Baker, Simplot's Harvard- and Yale-trained vice-president of plant sciences, said his scientists journeyed inside the vegetable's genome to "silence" unwanted attributes, while making sure that it remained 100 percent potato. "You'll never get as much beneficial effect from traditional plant breeding," he says. "And it'll take twice as long."
Enzyme-stripped, DNA-silenced food could have many unintended consequences Center for Food Safety science analyst Bill Freese is concerned about the unintended consequences that may arise when four gene codes for potato enzymes are turned off.
RNA interference technology silences genes, throwing off the natural life processes of the potatoes. How might this interfere with people and contribute to rising incidences of food allergies? Altering the natural enzymes of a food could change how the body processes that food.
Still, Muir believes that "[t]hey're taking all the appropriate steps," praising McDonald's potato distributor for reaching out to consumers who may eventually buy Innate potatoes and unbruised McDonald's golden fries.
Federal Government is on board
If the government gets behind the new science, then by 2015, the new GMO McDonald's golden fry could become a reality. The National Potato Commission in Washington, D.C., representing 45,000 U.S. growers is already on board. Chief Executive Officer John Keeling said he "supports scientific advancements to improve potatoes." The Innate brand of potato awaits USDA approval, which was filed in May 2013.
McDonald's trying to stay under the radar McDonald's isn't being very open about the issue, but a McDonald's spokeswoman told The Guardian that their corporate decision ultimately boils down to the advice of "food, industry and regulatory experts." Since McDonald's already uses GMO ingredients in other foods, and since current scientific consensus in the US believes that genetically engineered crops are safe to eat, it's obvious that McDonald's is leaning toward utilizing new GMO potatoes.
Simplot's main rival, ConAgra, has already stated that their potatoes are not genetically modified, so there are still natural options for McDonald's and fry producers to choose from.
So what direction will McDonald's head in 2014? Are they planning to embrace the enzyme-stripped, DNA-silenced potato? Will they spur mass production of the new "Innate" brand in the years ahead?

37 Million Bees Found Dead in Canada After Large GMO Crop
Planting “Once the corn started to get planted our bees died
by the millions"
by CHRISTINA SARICH / INFOWARS.COM
The makers of neonicotinoids, the bee-killing insecticide that was banned all over Europe, won’t be able to refute this latest phenomenon. Millions of bees were found dead after GMO corn was planted in Ontario, Canada. This isn’t new news, but it should be known news. The keeper of these bees, Dave Schuit, who produces honey, reported that he lost over 600 hives – around 37 million bees.
“Once the corn started to get planted our bees died by the millions,” Schuit said.
With increasing bee deaths and consumer petitions targeted to places like Home Depot and Lowe’s who sell neonics, the US Department of Agriculture has failed to ban neonicotinoids, manufactured primarily by Bayer CropScience Inc., as well as other biotech companies.
Two of Bayer’s best sellers are suspect this time around: Imidacloprid and Clothianidin. They are both known to seep into pollen and nectar, damaging beneficial insects such as bees.
The more widely they are used, the more bees seem to die.
Schuit’s report of dead bees is corroborated by other farmers, too. Nathan Carey is another local farmer who noticed a disappearance of bees on his farm this past Spring. There were so few that he could not count on them as he normally did to help pollinate his crops. He correlates their absence to the use of these toxic insecticides.
While many scientists are still unconvinced that “colony collapse disorder” (CCD) is caused by neonicotinoids, there has been a consecutive die-off of bees in the U.S. for seven years now – directly correlated to higher insecticide spraying.
Even US scientists have found 121 different pesticides in samples of bees, wax and pollen, lending credence to the notion that pesticides are in fact a problem.
Jeffery Pettis, of the ARS’s bee research laboratory, says:
“We believe that some subtle interactions between nutrition, pesticide exposure and other stressors are converging to kill colonies.”
A recently released study published in the Journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences described that neonicotinoid pesticides kill honeybees by damaging their immune system, making them unable to fight diseases and bacteria.
The study abstract concluded:
“The occurrence at sublethal doses of this insecticide-induced viral proliferation suggests that the studied neonicotinoids might have a negative effect at the field level. Our experiments uncover a further level of regulation of the immune response in insects and set the stage for studies on neural modulation of immunity in animals. Furthermore, this study has implications for the conservation of bees, as it will contribute to the definition of more appropriate guidelines for testing chronic or sublethal effects of pesticides used in agriculture.”

Planting “Once the corn started to get planted our bees died
by the millions"
