When friends have to part
To help us feel we are with them still
And soothe a grieving heart
They span the years and warm our lives
Our memories build a special bridge
And bring us peace of mind.
To help us feel we are with them still
And soothe a grieving heart
They span the years and warm our lives
Our memories build a special bridge
And bring us peace of mind.
Angeles Perez De Mateo, 95, peacefully passed away on April 14, 2019 at his home in Las Vegas, Nevada. Angeles was born on October 1, 1923 in Aklan, Philippines. He was preceded in death by his parents Pedro De Mateo and Gregoria Perez and his six siblings; four brothers, Leopoldo, Brigido, Francisco, and Antonio; two sisters, Corazon and Melanea.
On October 6, 1951, he married his beloved wife, Purita De Guia in Rizal, Philippines. They were happily married for 66 years before her death in 2017 due to a long term illness. They raised seven children; three sons, Angelito, Alexander, and Abraham; four daughters, Rosalinda, Marilou, Perla, and Victoria. Sadly, his eldest, Rosalinda, preceded him in death in 2016 related to medical complications.
Surviving relatives includes three grandchildren whom he dearly loved, Jennifer Soriano Mariano, Nicole and Jordan Flores; two son-in-laws, Perfecto Soriano and George Flores, married to Rosalinda and Marilou respectively, and grandson-in-law Jonathan Mariano, married to Jennifer; his sister-in-laws, Lucena De Mateo, Asuncion de Guia, Lucy de Guia, and numerous nieces and nephews and extended families.
In his younger years, Angeles enjoyed working as a Jeep driver in the busy streets of Manila. In 1968, his brother Leo and his wife Lucena, assisted in his move to California with his eldest daughter Rosalinda so he could have a better way of life to support his family. And in 1970, he brought his wife and remaining children from the Philippines to California. Angeles supported his family and worked hard as a tractor driver in agriculture and as a maintenance worker in a Pacific Gas & Electric building located in Salinas, California.
Angeles was a devout Catholic and learned many prayers from his wife, Purita. He formerly belonged to organizations such as Filipino Community of Salinas Valley, Fil-Am Catholic Association, and Filipino Visayan Association of America. He prayed daily with his rosary and has a collection of religious memorabilia. Angeles enjoyed watching sports on TV including world events on CNN. His favorite pastime was having his children bring him to casinos so he can try his luck on his favorite slot machines, and eat his favorite foods, rib eye steak and oysters.
When Angeles had to go out for any type of outing, he routinely would always be dressed up, put on his black fedora hat, and wear a big smile on his face that can light up a room. Also, Angeles loved anything that lit up, battery operated objects or candles, or Christmas light decorations. But most of all, he loved spending time with his family and adored his grandchildren, and he especially enjoyed all the times he spent cooking beside his wife Purita.
Angeles lived a long life and he will be missed for his unconditional love and mischievous sense of humor. His funeral service will be on April 29, 2019 at St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church, and burial of his remains to follow at Palms Northwest Mortuary on Jones Blvd in Las Vegas, Nevada, where he will be laid to rest in peace with his beloved wife, Purita.
